Quality Chickpeas seed from Coorow Seeds

Chickpeas is a major source of protein in vegetarian diets: the protein content is twice that of wheat and three times that of rice. This high protein content also makes chickpeas suitable as an animal feed.

Our chickpeas seed is locally produced by Western Australia Farmers with generations of experience and knowledge. Our chickpeas seed is sourced from well-known seed breeders, including Intergrain and Seednet.

Sampled and laboratory tested

We offer the best quality chickpeas seed, laboratory tested and certified by Agwest in terms of purity and germination rates. Our chickpeas seed is sampled and tested by NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) certified Laboratories in Western Australia including ChemCentre and Agrifood.

Varieties

Kalkee is a medium-large seeded kabuli chickpeas, a good replacement for Genesis 114, that was first on trial in 2005 and available for sowing in 2011. This variety has yield similar to Genesis 114 and Almaz but less than smaller seeded Genesis 090.

Key Features:

Medium to large kabuli chickpeas seed.

Medium to tall plant height with an erect plant type which is resistant to lodging.

Late flowering and maturity.

Moderate resistance to ascochyta blight.

Almaz is the “benchmark” larger seeded kabuli chickpea in southern Australia which was first introduced in 2005 by the Centre for Legumes in Mediterranean Agriculture (CLIMA) and the University of Western Australia. Almaz has proved to be adapted to chickpea growing areas with sufficient growing season to adequately produce large sized grain.

Key Features:

Large seeded kabuli chickpeas (8-9mm)

 Medium plant height with slightly better resistance to lodging than Kaniva.

Flowering and maturity time similar to Kaniva, but later than Genesis 090.

Moderate resistance to ascochyta blight

Requires strategic foliar fungicide applications to manage ascochyta blight.

Genesis 836 – A small sized Desi Chickpeas variety with tall, high yielding, widely adapted and slightly better quality than its alternative genesis 510. This variety has moderate resistance to ascochyta blight, thus, require two fungicide applications to improve its resistance.

Key Features:

Small size desi chickpeas seed, tall, erect and high yielding variety.

Moderately resistance to Ascochyta blight.

Broadly adapted, mid to early flowering variety with medium plant height and good harvestability

Striker Chickpeas – A type of Desi chickpeas with larger size than PBA slasher and Genesis 836 DCP.

This variety has high yield with early vigour and maturity which make it suitable for low-medium rainfall areas in Western Australia.

Key features:

Highest yielding large desi chickpeas seed compare to PBA slasher and Genesis 836.

Moderately resistance to Ascochyta blight.

Early flowering and maturity, suitable for low-medium rainfall areas.

Kabuli chickpeasGenesis 090 is a high yielding small kabuli chickpeas that is widely grow in southern and western Australia. This variety of chickpea seed is best suited to farming systems where crop topping or weed wiping of herbicide resistant ryegrass escapes it not required to prevent weed seed set.
