We are excited to announce we have added the new InterGrain Archer and Kingbale varieties to our oats stock available for the 2023 season!

Why us?

Oats Seed varieties are grown under a quality assurance program which involves certified growers, paddock inspections, seed is required to pass industry minimum purity, weed seed search and germination standards through an independent NATA accredited testing laboratory.

We offer milling and dual-purpose oat varieties; all Oats seed we market is of the highest quality. Oats in stock are: Brusher, Mulgara, Durack, Mitika, Archer and Kingbale.

Varieties

Key features:

  • Kingbale is a single gene IMI tolerant oaten hay variety – a world first.
  • Mid-maturing variety with improved tolerance to soil residual imidazolinone herbicides.
  • An ideal variety for use where there are IMI residue concerns from previous crops.
  • Tall variety with good early vigour.
  • Preliminary data shows Kingbale has a similar disease and agronomic profile to Wintaroo.
  • Excess grain, seed and screenings produced from single gene IMI Oaten hay varieties, Kingbale and Archer, can be used for the domestic oaten grain feed markets and/or consumed on-farm. Grain of these varieties cannot be delivered into bulk handling systems.

Key features:

  • Archer is a single gene IMI tolerant oaten hay variety.
  • Ideal variety for use where there are IMI residue concerns from previous crops.
  • Mid maturing oaten hay variety suitable for planting in the major hay growing regions of Australia.
  • Medium height variety, with good early vigour and hay colour retention.
  • Preliminary data indicates a similar disease profile to Yallara.
  • Excess grain, seed and screenings produced from single gene IMI Oaten hay varieties, Kingbale and Archer, can be used for the domestic oaten grain feed markets and/or consumed on-farm. Grain of these varieties cannot be delivered into bulk handling systems.

Durack Oats is a moderately tall variety similar in height to Carrolup and Yallara measuring between 80 and 90cm. It is a short seaon variety which makes it suitable to low to medium rainfall areas and late planting in high rainfall zones.

Very good early vigour.

Maturity – Early maturing (minimum 1 week earlier than Carrolup, Williams and Bannister)

Resistant to CCN R

Excellent grain quality with low screenings and high groat percentage.

Brusher is a tall mid-season hay variety. Earlier maturity than Wintaroo and is suitable for low rainfall areas. This variety was researched and developed by SARDI and commercialized by AEXCO in 2003. Available for order at Coorow Seeds among other variety of oats such as Mitika, Mulgara, etc.

Key features:

Tall, good leaf colour

Mid maturing hay oat suited to low rainfall

Resistant to nematode build up, moderately intolerant of CCN activity

Resistant to leaf rust

Improved hay yield, quality and digestibility. Good Early vigour.

Mulgara is a hay variety oat introduced in 2009 as an improvement to Wintaroo variety in terms of resistance to stem rust, lodging and shattering resistance, bacterial blight with early vigour.

Key features:

Mid-season, tall, Wintaroo replacement.

Resists brown leaf at cutting

Resistant to CCN, robust rust package

Excellent hay colour

Mitika is an early maturing dwarf milling variety with improved grain quality and disease resistance compared to Echidna and Possum across all rainfall zones. Yields are comparable to Echidna. The grain quality of Mitika meets milling standards. Summarised over all sites and years, Mitika’s physical grain quality is similar or an improvement compared to other milling varieties including Mortlock. Groat yield is the percentage of the whole oat which remains after the husk is removed. High groat yield, which relates to commercial milling yield, is a high priority with processors and the highest priority in the selection of milling varieties. Source: heritageseeds
